CAD Drafter Trainee

As a CAD Drafter Trainee, you will begin your career by learning how to create accurate technical drawings and design layouts that support utility and infrastructure projects. Under the close supervision of experienced drafters and engineers, you’ll develop foundational skills in CAD software, drawing standards, and project workflows.

This is a direct-hire opportunity with our client in the electrical utility design industry. It’s an ideal role for recent graduates or individuals transitioning into the drafting field who are looking to gain hands-on experience and grow into a full-time drafting role. You’ll be trained in best practices, introduced to real-world projects, and supported every step of the way as you build your technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating 2D CAD drawings for utility pole layouts, underground conduit plans, and electrical site designs

• Follow standard drafting procedures and templates as instructed

• Make drawing revisions based on feedback from senior team members

• Learn to interpret engineer redlines, sketches, and specifications

• Maintain and organize drawing files in a shared project environment

• Support project teams with basic documentation tasks

• Participate in team meetings and drafting training sessions

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or coursework in drafting or CAD preferred

• Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar software is a plus but not required

• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new technical skills

• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with team members

• Basic understanding of technical drawings or blueprints is helpful

• Positive attitude, reliability, and desire to grow in a technical role

Salary Range

$38,000 – $48,000 annually, depending on education, aptitude, and learning progression.
