The Business Analyst is responsible for gathering documents and examining the needs and requirements of the business. They analyze data and help with new technology solutions to save the company money and make them more efficient.
Furthermore, they work closely with program managers to clearly communicate their recommendations to stakeholders.
Sample Business Analyst Job Description for Staffing
A Business Analyst (BA) has 3-5 years of requirements elicitation, analysis, and management experience in a software development environment. The BA works under the supervision of a Senior BA to develop requirements and process documentation.
- Perform business requirements gathering, analysis, requirements synthesis, and creation of requirements documentation from business functional users for back-end solutions.
- Facilitates requirements workshops and develops process flows and use cases. (Data mapping, data extraction, transformation rules, and load procedures needed to populate info objects).
- Ability to help define requirements from business functional users for back-end solutions.
- Specific responsibilities include business process mapping of service, transaction, and information flows, assessment of as-is processes through customer interviews, data collection and analysis, design and evaluation of to-be process solutions, mapping of operational architecture, building business case models, preparing and presenting analysis to the customer, etc.
- Maps core business processes using a structured methodology and/or business process mapping tool (provided by the consultant) to facilitate projects, programs, and efficiency planning.
Qualifications of Business Analyst
- Analytical propensity with strong attention to detail, demonstrating comfort with data handling, process mapping, etc.
- Provide definitions of criteria for their analysis.
- Delivers business and/or strategy recommendations leveraging IT.
- Able to facilitate meetings in process redesign sessions.
- Ability to complement an existing team’s work into an end project.

Senior Business Analyst
A Senior BA has 5+ years of requirements elicitation, analysis, and management experience in a software development environment. The Senior BA possesses full knowledge of all phases of system analysis and provides guidance, leadership, and overall direction for requirements initiative. The Senior BA is responsible for developing and implementing best practices for requirements-gathering analysis.
- Performs business requirements gathering, analysis, requirements synthesis, and creation of requirements documentation.
- Prioritizes and performs requirements/complexity assessment.
- Provides definitions of criteria for their analysis.
- Facilitates requirements workshops, and develops process flows and use cases.
