Technical Support Specialist

Summary

A Technical Support Specialist provides friendly, effective troubleshooting and technical assistance to end users, helping them resolve hardware, software, and network issues. They work closely with team members and stakeholders to ensure systems run smoothly and users remain productive.

This role requires adapting to evolving technology, communicating clearly with non-technical users, and maintaining documentation of recurring issues and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve technical support requests via phone, email, or chat

  • Diagnose system or network issues and guide users through corrective steps

  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software components

  • Escalate more complex issues to higher-level support or engineering teams

  • Maintain detailed records of user interactions and support tickets

  • Assist in creating support documentation and user guides

  • Monitor system performance and flag potential problems or trends

  • Collaborate with IT staff on updates, patches, and system improvements

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in technical support, help desk, or a similar role

  • Strong understanding of Windows, macOS, and common business software

  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, VPN)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Effective interpersonal and customer service abilities

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or relevant experience preferred

Salary Range

An annual salary between $42,000 and $89,000, depending on experience, location, and technical proficiency.
