A Network Security Administrator ensures the safety and resilience of an organization’s network infrastructure. They are responsible for configuring, maintaining, and securing network systems to protect against unauthorized access and evolving cyber threats.
This role involves collaborating across IT teams to implement security tools, monitor network activity, and respond swiftly to incidents. The goal is to keep internal and external communications reliable and compliant with security standards while continuously improving defenses.
Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and other network security devices

Monitor network traffic and security alerts, investigate anomalies, and respond to incidents

Apply patches, updates, and security enhancements to network devices and infrastructure

Develop, implement, and enforce network security policies and procedures

Conduct vulnerability scans and assist in penetration testing efforts

Collaborate with IT and security teams to design secure network architecture

Provide training or guidance on best practices for secure network usage
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field (or equivalent experience)

Hands‑on experience managing network security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, etc.)

Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and network protocols

Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS)

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and incident response skills

Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCNA Security, CompTIA Security+, or similar are a plus

Salary Range
A reasonable annual compensation for this position could range from approximately $68,600 to $112,300, depending on experience, certifications, and regional cost of living.
