The IT Systems Support Technician ensures that the core IT systems supporting research, operations, and administration remain functional, secure, and efficient. This role blends user support with systems maintenance—covering everything from troubleshooting end-user issues to assisting with servers, networks, and cloud-based tools that power business-critical functions.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and local network issues

Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting servers, storage systems, and backup infrastructure

Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights using Active Directory

Support system updates, patches, and configuration changes

Monitor system performance and escalate potential issues before they impact operations

Help implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices

Document support requests, resolutions, and routine procedures

Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades and technology rollouts
Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field

2–3 years of experience in technical support or systems support roles

Solid understanding of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and basic server/network concepts

Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and endpoint management tools

Experience with ticketing systems and IT documentation

Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, or similar are a plus

Salary Range
$54,000 – $70,000 annually, depending on experience, systems expertise, and certification level.
