Desktop Operations Technician

Summary

A Desktop Operations Technician supports the seamless functioning of an organization’s desktop computing environment. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting of hardware and software issues, maintaining system integrity, and assisting users with technical problems—all while collaborating with team members to ensure efficient resolution.

The role also includes routine system maintenance, software installations and updates, and monitoring performance to prevent disruptions. The ideal candidate balances technical proficiency with a helpful, customer‑focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level technical support for desktops, laptops, peripherals, and related hardware

  • Troubleshoot and resolve common software issues, including operating system errors, application failures, and connectivity

  • Deploy software updates, security patches, and configuration changes across systems

  • Manage inventory and ensure that devices meet company standards

  • Assist with onboarding/offboarding by prepping and decommissioning workstations

  • Document incidents and resolutions thoroughly in the help desk system

  • Escalate unresolved technical issues to higher‑level IT or vendor support as needed

  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and knowledge bases

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a desktop or operations technician, help desk agent, or in a similar technical support role

  • Solid understanding of Windows and/or macOS operating systems

  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts, such as TCP/IP, DNS, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting

  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-oriented mindset

  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft MTA, or equivalent are a plus

Annual compensation of $50,000–$76,000.
